September, 2017 is the fourth-annual TCPA-sponsored celebration of Tennessee Archaeology Awareness Month.  Join us throughout the month of September as we learn more about Tennessee’s prehistoric and historic past through the study of Archaeology! Here are some of the ways we’re celebrating:

  • It’s the “30 Days of Tennessee Archaeology” blogfest! Each day TCPA members and friends will provide daily posts highlighting archaeological work throughout the state. You can follow the posts by visiting our blog.
  • Old Stone Fort Archaeological Society meets Thursday, September 8 for a free archaeological program.
  • The Tennessee State Museum and Tennessee Division of Archaeology will host an Artifact Discovery Day on Saturday, September 10.
  • Fort Negley will hold a “Fossil Finders” program on Saturday, September 10.
  • The C.H. Nash Museum hosts a Volunteer Saturday on September 17.
  • Pinson Mounds State Park will host the 34th annual Archaeofest on September 17 and 18.
  • David Crockett Birthplace State Park will hold their annual Native American Heritage Festival on September 17.
  • The Jackson Archaeological Society meets Tuesday, September 20 for a free archaeological program.
  • The McClung Museum will host a free lecture “Knoxville Unearthed: Archaeology In The Heart Of The Valley” on September 20.
  • The Rutherford County Archaeological Society’s second annual “Archaeology Day” will take place on September 24.
